Updated: Aug 1

Pasta is so simple, yet so deliciously versatile. The different varieties, and flavor combinations are seemingly endless! Pasta makes perfect classic meals; whether Italian, Asian or any cuisine in-between, it is considered a staple that is universally loved.

Pasta is made from grain which is one of the basic food groups. It’s a great source of energy and as a benefit, can be a source of fiber if it’s made of whole grain.

Our fresh organic herbs add lots of flavors to any dish. In this recipe, parsley, basil, cilantro, chives and arugula take a standard bowl of spaghetti (or any pasta of your choice) into an extraordinary meal!

  • 375 g spaghetti

  • 3/4 cup Parmesan cheese, grated

  • 1/2 cup Freeman Herbs Organic Parsley, chopped

  • 1/4 cup Freeman Herbs Organic Basil, chopped

  • 1/4 cup Freeman Herbs Organic Cilantro, chopped

  • 1/4 cup Freeman Herbs Organic Chives, chopped

  • 1/4 cup arugula, chopped

  • 1/2 lemon, zest finely, grated

  • 2 garlic cloves, finely, chopped

  • 1/3 cup olive oil

In a large pot of salted boiling water, cook the spaghetti until al dente. Keep 1/2 cup (125 ml) of the cooking water aside. Drain the spaghetti and oil lightly. Place in a large bowl.

Add the Parmesan, herbs and lemon zest. Season with salt and pepper. Set aside.

In the same pot that was used to cook the pasta, sauté the garlic in the oil. Pour over the pasta. Add the cooking water and toss well. Adjust the seasoning to your preference.

If desired, top with more grated Parmesan cheese before serving. Eat warm or at room temperature.

Other Tips:

Don’t toss out herbs that might be slightly wilted. They could be used to make a beautiful pesto! In this recipe we used parsley, basil, cilantro, chives and arugula. However, any herbs can be used in this recipe, if its green throw it in!
