Tomatillos are small, spherical fruits encased in a papery husk. Originating from Mexico, tomatillos are a staple in Latin American cuisine and have gained popularity worldwide for their tangy flavor and culinary versatility.

These fruits typically grow to around the size of a golf ball and are characterized by their green or sometimes purple-tinged husks that surround the firm, smooth, green or yellowish fruits inside. Unlike tomatoes, tomatillos have a unique tartness that adds a zesty, citrus-like flavor to dishes.

One of the primary culinary uses of tomatillos is in the creation of salsa verde, a popular and versatile green sauce. The husked fruits are roasted, boiled, or blended raw along with other ingredients such as chili peppers, onions, cilantro, and lime juice, resulting in a flavorful, tangy sauce that complements a wide array of dishes, including tacos, burritos, and grilled meats.
